Weigh-in on Data Centers & Montgomery County’s Waste Management Debate

It’s not too late to let county officials know your thoughts about these critical issues. Read our web posts then email the whole County Council, your representative, and/or the County Executive. In brief:

• The trash incinerator in Dickerson needs to be shuttered permanently

• The Council needs to enact in 2026 a zoning ordinance and guidelines for the siting and operation of data centers. There’s urgency because a large-scale center is already in the planning stages for Dickerson.

Saturday, April 4, 9:00 to 11:30am: SCA’s Annual Member Meeting: at the Gothic Barn at Linden Farm, 20900 Martinsburg Road, in Dickerson. An open discussion and Q&A on the data center issue will be a featured event. Beverages and a light breakfast will be available.

Thursday, April 23, 7 p.m.: Candidate Forum. The candidates for the Democratic nomination for County Executive will join us at a candidate forum on at Clarksburg High School, 22500 Wims Road in Clarksburg. They’ll discuss their positions on the Ag Reserve, farming, data centers, and other Ag Reserve-related issues. The moderator is Nick Iannelli, evening anchor of WTOP News and a Montgomery County resident. There’ll be time for audience questions. SCA is co-hosting the event with the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. If you plan to attend, please register.

Tina Brown served on SCA’s Board for over 20 years. She lives in Barnesville with her husband Jim, also a long-time board member and former SCA president. Tina is a working artist and creates exquisite art from her Morningstar Studio.

Peter Gimbrere and partner Terry live in Dickerson on a farm with three donkeys, three dogs, three boys, and two cats. Peter, an attorney, works at the federal Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been Managing Executive of the agency since 2015. He previously served on SCA’s board from 2016-2019.

Vicky Thompson lives with her family in Dickerson and is passionate about the environment and social change. She has led nonprofit organizations and offers broad experience in fundraising and donor stewardship programs. She most recently worked with the American Geophysical Union in Washington, DC.
