Dickerson Incinerator and Waste ManagementTomorrow (Feb. 11) we’re back before the County Council to urge our elected representatives to postpone implementation of a contract that will extend operation of the County’s aging and pollution-spewing trash incinerator for 5 more years (from April 2026 to April 2031). We presented the same request on Jan. 28. See our updated web post on this issue here. You can weigh in on the fate of the incinerator or any aspect of the County’s waste management systems at the County Council’s website. Solar Facility InstallationsOn Feb. 4, some 50 Ag Reserve and Montgomery County residents attended a public hearing in Beallsville on whether the state should allow solar energy companies to build large-scale solar facilities on prime farmland in the Ag Reserve. The measure would undermine Montgomery County’s zoning regulations that limit the size and siting of such facilities. We support solar but not on good farmland.
