SCA has been tracking proposals for utility-scale ground-based solar projects in and near the Ag Reserve. There’s a public hearing this week on one of those projects—Mountain Vale Solar. The project has garnered considerable interest in the Poolesville-Barnesville-Dickerson area. The hearing is before the Montgomery County Planning Board on Thursday, June 26, 1:30pm. Anyone can testify—either in person, via zoom, or by email. You must sign up to testify. The meeting will be streamed. Here are the relevant links: As proposed, the Mountain Vale Solar Project would be just over 11 acres at 17700 Barnesville Rd, between Old Hundred Road and Conoy Road. It will generate less than 2 megawatts of energy. The Planning Board hearing may focus particularly on the project’s impact on the surrounding forest in the affected area.
